This page should be inspired from what is available on download.slicer.org

Discussing with Mike about re-using the code should be considered.

Note from Steve originally added to issue 0002721:

Regarding statistics, it would be good if we had an automatic 'check for updates' option that queried the web site. We could record the number of times (and the source IP geolocation) of these connections in order to have a sense of how many time slicer is being used in the real world. This is something we've always wanted but never had available.

I need information about how to get the download numbers (download.slicer.org/stats scans the download.slicer.org apache logs for this information).

When we last had a conference call about this topic, there was significant handwaviness about how to get these numbers.

Note that it is currently possible to compute the stats for either a single extension or all of them using the "ExtensionStats" module available in the "DeveloperToolsForExtensions" extension.

The ExtensionStats contains in the DeveloperToolsForExtensions [1] extension provide the requested functionality.
