Summary0003016: Saving to network drive/mount does not work (vtkPNGWriter, both Linux and Windows) -- and no error message
Description

Saving some kinds of files (such as volumes, nnrd, or views, png) to network drive, doesn't work.

Saving Linux (4.2.0-2013-03-05 r21787) to network mount:

ERROR: In /home/kitware/Dashboards/Nightly/Slicer-build-64bits-QT4.7.4-PythonQt-With-Tcl-CLI-Release-nightly/VTK/IO/vtkImageWriter.cxx, line 493
vtkPNGWriter (0x5091090): Ran out of disk space; deleting file(s) already written

Same on Windows (4.2.0-2013-03-12 r21802) to a network drive:
ERROR: In ....\VTK\IO\vtkImageWriter.cxx, line 493
vtkPNGWriter (0000000015F00CA0): Ran out of disk space; deleting file(s) already written

The absence of a prominent error message (although it's in the log) may lead to data loss -- that's a second complaint. If you can verify, then perhaps bump to "major"?

Can this reproduced using "vtkPNGWriter" available in VTK6 ?

Jcfr, I investigated further --- HHIS --- this was a configuration error. Please mark as CLOSED.

Resolving issue based on a recent comments.
@imphead: Will let you close the issue. For reference, would be great if you could report what was the config error. Thanks

The configuration error pertained to a Synology disk station: up to DSM 4.1, it actually had no settings to trim the recycle bins (and they can't be emptied from workstation!!). Go figure. Upgrading to DSM 4.2, just released, fixed the problem.

The absence of an error message from Slicer in this situation is unfortunate, but I think this lack of a pop-message or something -- hey there, something went really wrong -- is a quite general usability problem that's probably reported elsewhere.

@jcfr: please remark as 'resolved', I had to reopen (I think) to write this note.
