It turns out that this bug persists on various Windows hardware (graphics card and not) + OS combinations (7 and 8), not just the one I originally reported. It's quite annoying! It should be easy to reproduce. The way to circumvent the bug is to glide the mouse cursor along a vertical line centered on the "Toogle foreground visibility" button and around the whole slicer controller box (when pinned). If you approach this button horizontally and you have a foreground volume selected, then you'll see it! Same problem for label volume.

I can't replicate this on my windows machine, but I can believe it happens.

@julien - I see you were assigned this before but Jc assigned it back to nobody. If you can't work on this, then we'll need to redesign this into something someone else is able to fix (probably disabling the popup mode).

@steve - Unfortunately I don't have time to look at this problem.

Thanks for keeping an eye on this -- downloaded Windows version recently (mid-May). I'd still say that if most Slicer downloads are by medical folks using Windows you might want to look into this and the other (bigger) Windows annoyance http://na-mic.org/Mantis/view.php?id=1763. They give a sort of rough impression that don't reflect all the progress that you've otherwise achieved. Vice versa, if Windows is not important, then you can safely wait. My 2 cents...
