Two features suggested:

1) with the transition to Qt, it would be nice to revisit the way scalar bar is configured and displayed, and perhaps look at the interface implemented in Paraview (Display tab, "Edit color map..") for comparison

2) is it very difficult to display the scalar bar in the slice viewer? Ron says, sometimes this can be very useful.
