Summary0000062: Slicer3 requires a lot of screen real estate to work properly
Description

The slicer3 GUI does not work correctly in all respects when the screen width is less than about 1184 pixels. In particular, on a screen with only 1024 pixels horizontally, the slice sliders on the red, yellow, and green 2D display windows do not appear, presumably because there are insufficient pixels for them.

Needing more pixels across may be a fact of life, but there should be some kind of warning to the user when the screen has too few pixels; otherwise it just appears broken.

Additional Information

Windows XP, SP2, all patches.

This has been an issue for Slicer3 for a while. As of now, you really can't use Slicer3 efficiently at resolutions below 1280x1084. The content should resize appropriately now (i.e. nothing should be off the side of the screen), but the interface becomes hard to use. There are also issues with very high resolution monitors and font sizes. These are related bugs:

I've added this to the Slicer3 Beta release notes, and hopefully we will have a better resolution to both these problems soon.

I've checked in a temporary fix for exposing the widgets inside the red, yellow and green slice viewers; if your screen width is < 1200 pixels, the widgets are packed differently so presumably you can get to all icons and sliders. To really bullet-proof this, we'll need to do a little more checking, and perhaps pop up a warning dialog if your screen resolution is REALLY low, so even this fix won't help (a likely scenario?). We'll call this temporarily resolved, but not closed.

Closing. Slicer3 is not being developed anymore.
