Summary0003316: Program crashes each time I attempt to calculate arterial volumes using ruler
Description

I am running slicer 4.2.2-1 on an 8gb windows computer and find that the program consistently crashed every time I upload an MRI T2 weighted image to record arterial volumes. At first I thought the program was more prone to crashing if I zoomed into the image too much however now it crashes even if I do not zoom in. I tried changing the compatibility mode and troubleshooting but nothing has worked so far. Does slicer seen to have more issues with windows? Would my luck be better of with OS X or windows?

This is the file error that shows up:

Faulting application name: SlicerApp-real.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x50c3a1c7

Hi, thanks for your report.
Are you using Slicer in 32bits ?
How large is your MRI T2 volume? Can you share it ?
Can you give a step by step instructions on how to reproduce the crash ?
Have you tried using a different volume rendering technique ? (VTK CPU Ray Casting, VTK GPU Ray Casting, NCI GPU Ray Casting...)

Hi I have used the 32 and 64bits. The image file is 4481KB. What I am trying to do here is to measure the arterial volumes for the major arteries on the T2 weighted image using the ruler module but every time I click on the second point for the ruler to give me a diameter it crashes. I have attached the image file to this post. I have not tried other techniques because I am not familiar with them and am unsure if they provide the measurements we need. Thank you.

Thanks for the image, however I would need a more described step by step workflow. For example:
1) Start Slicer
2) File-> Add Data ->"Choose File to Add" -> Select "T2_W37063_V2.nii" -> "Open" -> "Ok"
3) Open Volume Rendering module
4) Check the "eye" icon
5) ...

1) Start Slicer
2) File-> Add Data ->"Choose File to Add" -> Select "T2_W37063_V2.nii" -> "Open" -> "Ok"
3) Locate slice where the basilar artery is most round (@ second slice follwing the first view of the pons)
4) Select the ruler icon
5) Place first fiduciary point at the base of the basilar artery
6) Place second fiduciary point at the top of the artery--> no measurement is recorded or given
7) Program immediately crashes and closes
6) Dialog box appears stating "SlicerApp-real.exe has stopped working: A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

Thanks for the workflow.
I'm not sure the issue really belongs to the "Volume Rendering" category.

@Chrystel: Could you check on windows using the 4.3 release ?

Please re-open this issue if it is still a problem using a recent nightly build. Latest nightly can be downloaded here: http://download.slicer.org
