Summary0002970: Background label color obscures the view when non-zero
Description

see http://massmail.spl.harvard.edu/public-archives/slicer-devel/2013/011468.html

Kahei,

I now understand what you mean. Indeed, if a label has LUT with non-0
color assigned to 0 label value, then all pixels outside FOV for the
label will be assigned that color. I attach 2 screenshots: same label,
cropped, in the first case with the default LUT, in the second case
with the DarkBrightChartColors LUT. Setting the label view mode to
outline does not fix this, as all of the 0-label area is covered with
the first color in LUT.

I do not know if this behavior is intentional, but it looks like a bug
to me. Maybe developers of this part of Slicer can comment.

I think I follow, but can you provide simple steps required to replicate the issue?

Here are the steps:
1) load MR head
2) crop a region from MR head
3) create a label for the cropped region
4) use threshold to initialize the label
5) set DarkBrightChartColors LUT for cropped label
6) set original MR head as Bg and cropped label as Lb

Shifted the following LUT for label maps to start with 1 rather than 0 (0 is reserved for "no value"):
DarkBrightChartColors.txt
LightPaleChartColors.txt
MediumChartColors.txt

DarkBrightChartColors.txt
LightPaleChartColors.txt
MediumChartColors.txt

are meant for Charts not LabelMaps. They define the colors to cycle through when plotting data.

Can we change them back?

I agree with Jim - thse should change back. I think real issue was the one being worked on in 0003009
