Summary0002498: Import / LocalDatabase usability (not clear)
Description

As a user who just started to use the DICOM module in Slicer 4, I clicked on the top right button (LocalDatabase) because I saw an "Open" icon on the button. I set my DICOM folder, nothing happened. Then I realized there is an Import button, which I probably should have pressed to import my DICOM data. At the same time I started to panic because I didn't know where was my local database, so I couldn't set it back.

The local database setting button should probably be a little more hidden from the dummy users, and the typical "Open" icon should be on the Import button.

Yes, makes sense. I won't change this for the 4.2 release, but we can brainstorm a better interface for future versions.

One note: if a user has never entered the dicom module before, the first dialog is a directory browse prompt with an explanation of the dicom database directory. You may not have seen this if you had an existing database directory in your application settings.

Probably we should have a way to just add data and have it show up in the dicom database as a byproduct (optional). So that new users don't have to do the two-step process of importing to the database and then loading from dicom.

This has been addressed in CTK during the 2014 St Louis hackfest
