Summary0002297: initialization of 3d viewer
Description

When a 3d viewer is used for the first time, it should adjust the camera fov, position and zoom, the equivalent of tapping the r key while the mouse is inside the viewer and clicking the "center the 3d view on the scene" button in the pop up window of the 3d viewer.

Concerning the original issue, I'm not sure what you mean by "first time".
Can you give me a step-by-step workflow?

-start slicer, put it into conventional layout
-load the sample data set called ct chest using the load data button in the welcome module
-turn slice visibility on for the red slice

  1. the slice is not in the center of the 3d viewer
  2. the FOV is not optimized
  3. the box is not around the slice.

I uploaded images to illustrate:
-image called before: start slicer, load data, turn on visibility for red and green viewer
-image called after: adjust FOV in all slice viewers, center the view in the 3D viewer, reset the view in the 3D viewer using the keyboard binding linked to the letter R, turn camera by a few degrees to make the sagittal slice visible.
