Summary0001268: Fiducial placement: jump to local min/max
Description

It would be helpful to have a placement mode to allow placement or 'hugged' dragging to the nearest local min/max.

Use cases: marking implanted electrodes on CT images, selecting high areas for seeding.

I would suggest implementing this functionality in a dedicated module for "snapping" fiducials in a list. IMO "Fiducials" should provide generic functionality, and the suggested mode is essentially a post-processing operation that addresses a relatively narrow need.

I agree with Andriy that this is a very narrow, application-specific need that can be very easily implemented in an extension. There are many application specific strategies for snapping (snap to image contour, models, etc.) and so there is no chance to implement all of them in Markups. Markups should be kept simple (and all bugs should be fixed) and a separate module should be added for the snapping functionality.
