Summary0004202: SaveIslandEffect does not work in 4.4, 4.5, but works in 3.6.
Description

We have a binary image of segmentation for brain image in the NIFTI format. Our job is to remove CSF area and save the ventricles. To achieve this, we loaded the binary image as “LabelMap” and then loaded it again without “LabelMap”. Then we clicked on Editor and we used the "DrawEffect" to circle bottom portion of the brain that we wanted to get rid of. Once we did that for all the slides in the image, we switched to "SaveIslandEffect" and clicked the lateral ventricle on the image. What's supposed to happen is that everything except the ventricles are supposed to go away. However, nothing happens. The "DrawEffect" works, but the "SaveIslandEffect" does not work in version 4.4 or 4.5, but it works in version 3.6.

Steps To Reproduce
  1. Load binary image as a “labelmap”

  2. Load binary image again, but this time without “labelmap”

  3. Select Editor

  4. Select “DrawEffect” button, change color to ”0”, draw our expected area, then press “apply”

  5. Continue Step 4 for all slices that we wanted to take out the area for

  6. Select “SaveIslandEffect” button and click the area suppose to save (ventricle)

  7. At this time, ventricle will be seen and the extra regions will be removed

Additional Information

Step 7 does not work with version 4.4 or 4.5 but it works with 3.6.

Attached are the example of the output of version 4.4 and version 3.6 after Step 6. The one on the left is from version 4.4 and the one on the right is version 3.6.

I don't see that you've attached data to replicate the issue. You might try providing the label map where you think the island has been isolated.

Here's what I did try that works correctly (and makes me believe it works the same as in 3.6)

  • load MRhead from sample data
  • go into paint mode
  • draw two isolated areas
  • enter Save Island
  • click on one area and the other disappears

You can try this with various tools like Threshold followed by SaveIsand it things are working as I expect.

Without further feedback from the reporter it is not possible to reproduce the issue.
Also, Segment Editor is recommended instead of the Editor, it has many more Islands Effects.
