Summary | 0003870: VTK OpenGL Texture Mapper Renderer missing
Description | VTK OpenGL Texture Mapper Renderer from Slicer 4.3 is missing in current Slicer. This renderer is very useful to visualize low contrast images efficiently. The alternatives to this renderer are VTK CPU Ray Cast Mapper and VTK GPU Ray Cast Mapper, but both have major limitations. VTK CPU Ray Cast Mapper is sluggish in performance, and VTK GPU Ray Cast Mapper completely lacks responsivity to Gradient Opacity transfer function. Setting a ramp on Gradient Opacity Transfer function is essential in cases where image contrast is low. Hence, it would be very helpful to restore this renderer back into Slicer.

I am closing this issue. The latest version of Slicer is built on top of a VTK version including a new OpenGL backend, and a lot of performance improvements. I suggest you re-evaluate and re-open an issue if an updated report. |
