Summary0002493: Nightly extension builds are not available
Description

Today (2012-09-10) Extensions-Nightly builds were generated only for linux:
http://slicer.cdash.org/index.php?project=Slicer4&date=2012-09-10

Please generate Win32, Win64, and Mac builds as well.

Similar problems often happen, so the root cause should be clarified and the build configuration should be updated to avoid these.

A few ideas:
-start nightly builds from clean directories
-disable automatic restart after update or set up auto-logon on Windows build machines
-kill previous builds attempts if not completed within a specified time limit, maybe run nightly builds from scratch on clean virtual machines to be able to isolate issues (no need to selectively kill processes but the whole VM can be shut down)

Hi Marianna,

During the past few weeks, the factory showed some symptoms. Nightly builds were causing the factory to crash / freeze. In addition to legitimate build error, this explains why nightly packages weren't always available.

I copied below some of the exchange with Ron that should help the community understanding the current state.

Will keep the list updated of the progress.

Thanks Jc

The factory has been restarted. After being able to successfully connect to it. I shut down all virtual machine and also quit parallel desktop.

It means that only Macosx nighties should be expected from the factory for at least the coming two days.

Thanks Jc

Hi Ron,

During the weekend, we disabled the Linux VMs to see if this later one was causing trouble. It worked for one night and it started to misbehave again the following night.

I will now ask our admins to restart one more time the factory. Then, the plan is to enable only the dashboards associated with the macosx operating system (host) to see if if it still misbehave. Following that small experiment, if there are still issues, I would start disabling all the python tests, ... and see if there are issues. Would continue along that path until we understand better which tests or what is causing trouble.

Let me know what you all think.

Thanks for your patience, Jc

Changed status to "feedback", waiting for Parallel 5 to be installed on the factory.

Linux VM has been re-enabled, extensions for the three platform are now available.

Extensions are usually built correctly now for all platforms.
